Ethnic Studies

Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary subject, meaning it encompasses several different subjects such as art, history, English, music, dance, science, technology, philosophy, theater, and much more. Since this course is an elective, students will have the opportunity to engage in many of these various subjects depending on how the teacher structures the course. There will be opportunities to engage in self-reflection and to determine identity. Additionally, students may critique their relation to others and how they fit in with other people in society. Students will also examine the ways in which systems of power, such as the education system, the legal system, racism, and patriarchy, influence so much of their lives. Lastly, students will have opportunities to challenge the status quo and consider ways you can engage in transforming your community and even the world in order to achieve justice for all.
