Ensemble Auditions

Ensemble Auditions are OPEN for the '26-'27 School Year!

NOTE – Everyone is Welcome to Join the Symphonic Band, String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble (Band & Vocal), & Panther Marching Band & Color Guard!

 

If you are a rising Freshman or newly incoming to Prospect HS, please list Symphonic Band OR String Orchestra as your first choice elective. For current students, you will list the preferred class/ensemble as your first choice and your schedule will be changed following audition results.

 

What Are Auditions & How Do They Work?

To join Wind Ensemble (the top concert band) or Chamber Orchestra (the top string orchestra), you must meet the pre-requisites of being enrolled in Symphonic Band or String Orchestra for a minimum of 1 year and an audition is required. Ensemble auditions are one-on-one playing assessments that consist of scales and playing excerpts that will be in-person on the above dates. Failure to register for a time slot or complete an in-person audition with Mr. Gonzales will make you invalid to become a member of the Wind Ensemble or Chamber Orchestra.

 

Ensemble Auditions serve two purposes:

1.) Give Mr. Gonzales an idea of where you are at musically and how he can help you improve, and

2.) Place you in the correct ensemble(s) according to your ability.

 

Where Can I Find Audition Materials?

The audition information packet, audition sheet music, and Google Form are all found at the bottom of this page!

 

Where/When Will Results be Announced?

Audition results will be posted on the music room door and here on the music website (www.PHSMusic.org) and will be emailed to all auditioned students by January 30th, 2026 or sooner.

Please be patient as it can take the amount of time to listen to every student, place students accordingly, and get to the counseling department to place each student in the correct class.

 

Additional Information & Reminders:

  • All students who are currently in Wind Ensemble or Chamber Orchestra must re-audition each year.
  • Students who do not audition will be placed in Symphonic Band or String Orchestra.
  • All incoming 8th-Graders are encouraged to be in the Symphonic Band & Marching Band, or String Orchestra at PHS.
  • Transfer students may audition by emailing Mr. Gonzales during the summer and before August 21st, 2026 (The end of the first full week of classes).
