Week of Welcome!

Week of Welcome, First Day of School

Tuesday is the first day of the school year, and there are many details to review and information that will be helpful to you as you prepare for the week ahead.  We refer to the first week of school as THE WEEK OF WELCOME.  We use this name because we have adjusted our schedule for the first week, and events to help us begin fostering a community.  We have designed this week to maximize opportunities for students to meet other students whom they haven’t met previously.  It gives students and staff a chance to meet one another and to begin preparing each course and understanding the expectations of each class. It allows each student to transition from the summer to a more consistent and full schedule between school work and any home responsibilities you may have.

The schedule is different this week.  Be sure to review the schedule linked here so you know what time each day ends, depending on whether you have a 7th-period class or not.  Students are expected to stay each day until the end of the event if they do not have 7th period or until the end of the 7th period class.  The regular weekly bell schedule will begin the following Monday, August 18.

Tuesday, August 12 - ALL SCHOOL BBQ - There will be an all-school BBQ served to all students and staff after third period.  Hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, and a whole lot of asides and goodies will be available ot students.  During that time, the ASB Leadership students will be running and hosting an assortment of games in the quad.  The goal is for students and staff to enjoy this time together.  Students who do not have a 7th period are free to leave campus at 1:00.

Wednesday, August 13 - ALL SCHOOL RALLY - Following lunch on Wednesday, students will report to the gymnasium for the year’s first rally.  It will be a fun time of friendly class competitions and a chance to further bind as a school.  If crowded and noisy spaces are not to your liking, students will be allowed to report to the Student Union, where they will have a movie playing and have games set up throughout so students can bond with other students and staff in a calmer atmosphere.  Students who do not have a 7th period are free to leave at 1:40 following the rally.

Thursday and Friday follow the traditional Monday Collaboration Day Schedule, except that 7th period meets during the unusual collaboration time on both those days. There are no special events on either day.
