My name is Dr. Anthony Miner, and I work with Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI). I am participating in the Workforce Development Committee comprised of folks from the County and a few non-profit organizations to promote the field of behavioral health as a career path and hope you could help us through this endeavor.

In January 2022, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) declared a public health crisis in Santa Clara County, due to the increase of mental health and substance use among the population in our county. This is exacerbated by a substantial workforce shortage to support the needs of our community.

One of our strategies to address the crisis is to attract HS students in wanting to join the BH field and have them learn of the different career opportunities available for them to pursue. We hope to present to students on campus a background of BH and provide them information on potential internship and certification programs.

We are working to increase collaboration with local high schools and would like an opportunity to present to students on campus. The interactive presentation will take approximately 20-30 minutes, and we would like to allow 10-15 minutes for Q & A. We will have current interns and specialists from various positions within mental health and substance use who will be available to share their experience and help answer questions.
