Welcome to 2020-21
This is Paul Pinza, the Principal at Prospect High School. I want to officially welcome you to the 2020-21 School Year. I hope that, as the summer winds down, you and all of your loved ones find yourselves safe, healthy, and ready to jump back into learning on August 12th.
Despite all the unprecedented changes and challenges in the world right now, our vision at Prospect High School remains the same. We are committed to owning our future, which means we all have the responsibility to make sure every Panther puts in the work and gets the support they need, to build a brighter future for themselves and for our entire community.
Our front office will be open starting tomorrow, Monday July 27th, from 7:30am – 3pm. In order to maintain physical distancing, as required by state and county health orders, we encourage you to call the office before you visit us: 408-626-3408. Everyone must wear a mask or face-covering when visiting our front office.
ONLINE Registration Process
All families must complete our registration process before the school year begins, and this year, that process is entirely online. You should receive in the mail instructions for registering your student for this school year. One parent or guardian in each family needs to have an e-mail address in order to complete online registration. Students – please help your family member create a Gmail account if they don’t already have one.
The Aeries online portal
will open on Wednesday, July 29, and on that date, you will be able to see links to instructions and resources on our website prospect.cuhsd.org
. The registration process has three steps:
- First, you will update emergency contacts and other family information for each of your students,
- Next, if your student has a medical condition, you will complete a separate electronic form,
- Finally, you will electronically sign a copy of your parents’ rights and responsibilities.
You can see a complete set of instructions for online registration at this website
, and you can watch a video
that explains the process here.
If you need help with the online registration, in English or Spanish, please call the support hotline at
(408) 558-3080, and choose option 8.
The hotline is open from July 29 to August 7, 10 AM to 7 PM.
If you cannot access online registration at home, please call our office to make arrangements for support on campus.
When you’ve finished all parts of online registration, you will be able to see your student’s schedule of classes by logging into the same parent portal starting Monday, August 3rd.
Summer workouts are going to be paused, temporarily, after Wednesday, July 29th. Once we know the schedule for online classes, our goal is to re-configure the schedule for team workouts so they can resume, with the same protocols we had for the summer, before the end of August.
For our incoming freshmen, we are planning a socially-distanced, in-person orientation for you on the Prospect campus! Each freshman will be assigned a one-hour time slot on one day August 3rd through 6th between 8am and 3pm. Please visit the Activities page
for your student's day and time slot.
During orientation, students will be able to receive your very own Chromebook, get your photo ID card, and meet members of our Link Crew who will guide and support you as we start online classes
. Students will be required to wear masks at all times, stay in their small groups and stay at least six feet apart at all times. Families are welcome to email Ms. Freeman at firstname.lastname@example.org
if they do not want their student to participate in the on-campus orientation.
Q&A with Mr. Pinza on Facebook Live
We know there are lots of details and still many unknowns, so I’ll be holding a pair of online question-and-answer sessions this week on social media. I will be on Facebook Live Wednesday the 29th at 6:00pm at the Mister Pinza page, and I’ll be on Instagram Live Thursday at 1pm, also at Mister Pinza.
**NEW Learning Management Portal & Communication - Canvas (Formerly SchoolLoop) & Remind
Finally, I’m very excited to announce that we will be concentrating both our instructional materials (assignments) and grades onto one platform called Canvas. We are also expanding our use of the application Remind
to help us better communicate with families while classes are online. Look for information and resources coming the week of August 3 to help you log in and stay connected using both platforms.
I am very excited to begin this year, and I see many opportunities for us to re-invent ourselves and our school so that owning our future becomes easier and more meaningful for every single student.
I can't wait to see all of you again for another fantastic year.
